August 3 - 31, 2008
Abstractionist Rock Drilon unveils an exhibition of recent paintings
on August 3 at the Galleria Duemila in Pasay City. The show, which
runs until the end of August, is a selection of acrylic on canvas
works produced by the artist within the past three years.
Recent Works contains both large and small-scale canvases.
Present in the paintings are recurring motifs in Drilon's previous
body of works: forms born out of entanglements and unwinding, denoting
structures of rumination and resolution. The smaller canvases in the
show contain less forms and elements than the artist's larger
works-reflecting a process of a paring down perhaps?
Interestingly, the paintings were created at a point in the artist's
life where he has been fulfilling several simultaneous roles: as a
painter, father, and director of Mag:net, an art space. The paintings
in this show were produced mostly during the artist's free time since
2005, in between conceptualizing and overseeing other visual arts
exhibitions and troubleshooting events as they came. Drilon compares
the act of managing the entirety of Mag:net's gallery and cafe
operations to the act of painting: a process and commitment that can
often have unexpected, though nonetheless rewarding, results.
Rock Drilon studied under the tutelage of the late modernist Jose Joya
while at the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts. He
has regularly held solo exhibitions throughout the Philippines, and in
South East Asia, Europe and the United States.
Recent Works by Rock Drilon will open on August 3, 2008 at
Galleria Duemila, 210 Loring Street, Pasay City. The show will be on
