"Connectivity"
Leonardo Aguinaldo presents new works that breathe
interconnectivity between the highland indigenous and the
lowland contemporary Philippine cultures. They capture the
essences of family, everyday life, colonial influences on
culture, spirituality, religion, current events and
fantasies. They are playful, sarcastic, and sensual.
They are about the people's instinctive capacity to resist
the burdens of social hardships that are experienced in real
life situations. One narrative links to the next, defining
earthly and cosmic existence. These large-scale rubber
cut-outs are a series of diverse visual connections that
confront the politics of survival in relationship to power
struggles.
Connectivity
is about being a family, being a Filipino, and finding what
links them together in a country striving to become a whole
nation.
